This edition, we have two sets of winners, representing activities that date back to Ancient Greece. Our first set of winners compete in one of the oldest sports known to man – wrestling. When you wrestle, you compete against others in your same weight class. Our winners have proven themselves to be amongst the best in the state. Congratulations to our first set of our “Flying the P” winners this week; our state qualifying wrestlers:
Jaylah Dalton is the first female wrestler in PCHS history to wrestle at state.
Shamon Handegan who finished his season with a record of 40-3.
Tyler Haynes who took 4th place at State and finished with a record of 37-2.
Our other set of “Flying the P” winners like to talk. They put their oratory skills to work to make PCHS one of the “big mouths” in the world of speech. Let us congratulate our state qualifying members of our world-renowned S'Pekin Dragons as our second set of “Flying the P” winners this week:
Mark Czesak - Extemporaneous Speaking (18th place finish)
Caroline Manning - Prose Reading (16th place finish)
Anna Soupos - Oratorical Declamation (18th place finish)
Norah Springborn - Original Comedy (17th place finish) & Informative Speaking (10th place finish)
Sophia Vansaghi - Poetry Reading (18th place finish)
What a great set of “Flying the P” winners this week. You inspire others every day and are a great example of The Dragon Way! Please help us in congratulating them for being selected for this prestigious honor!

More Interior Design green design projects- one group took a broken table top and made an interesting coffee table! Another wove a design in the back of an old chair to give it new life! Great job!

This past weekend, the S'Pekin Dragons had TWO students qualify for the National Speech & Debate Association Tournament! They are:
Mark Czesak (jun) in International Extemporaneous Speaking
Marshal Pruitt (soph) in Congressional Debate
We also had three students place 3rd, meaning that they didn't outright qualify to the National Tournament, but they are listed as the first alternate to replace someone if needed. Also, as alternates, they still have a chance to possibly compete at the National Tournament if they are selected to be on the Greater Illinois District World Debate Team. Those students are:
Norah Sprinborn (jun)
Sophia Vansaghi (soph)
Mel Harriss (soph)
Finally, two weeks ago the S'Pekin Dragons competed at the IHSA State Tournament. We did not have anyone place in the Final Round, but we did finally receive the preliminary ranks and can finally tell you end results:
Norah Springborn (jun) - finished 10th in the state in Informative Speaking
Norah Sprnigborn (jun) - tied for 17th in the state in Original Comedy
Mark Czesak (jun) - finished 18th in the state in Extemporaneous Speaking
Anna Soupos (sen) - finished 18th in the state in Oratorical Declamation
Sophia Vansaghi (soph) - finished 18th in the state in Poetry Reading
It's been a busy but rewarding few weeks. If you see these students, congratulate them on all their hard work and success.
