On November 3, 2026, voters in Tazewell County will vote on a 1% County Schools Facility Tax, also known as a one-cent tax. School districts across Tazewell County have united to bring forward this request.
The majority of revenue from this tax is estimated to be paid by visitors, not Tazewell County taxpayers, because this tax applies to anyone that makes qualifying purchases under current Illinois law. Visitors that shop and dine in Tazewell County would contribute nearly 60% of this revenue, according to a 2026 analysis by PGAV planners.
If approved, the tax will provide a new revenues source for:
•Facility upgrades such as roof replacements, upgrades to classroom spaces, and parking lot/playground repairs
•Safety and support upgrades for students such as entryway upgrades, school resource officers, and mental health providers
