2019-2020 School Year for Army JROTC.
Welcome back Pekin Community High School JROTC Cadets to School Year 2019-2020. We are excited to have each Cadet in the JROTC Program. JROTC is a nation wide program program comprising over 350,000 Cadets at 1700 High Schools. It is a program that mission is to motivate young people to become better citizens in whatever they desire to do after high school.
We have many different activities and events within JROTC. As a review, there are three mandatory events for each Cadet within the program:
Friday, October 4th- Marching in the Pekin Homecoming Parade
Saturday, November 23rd- JROTC Military Ball
Thursday, May 7th- JROTC End of Year Award Ceremony
As the holidays approach, we wanted to let you know about what is happening this November and into December in JROTC.
Cadets will once again have the opportunity to place American Flags at Lakeview and Lakeside cemetery on Veteran's graves. JROTC has volunteered for the past 15 years helping out the American Legion and AMVETS with this community service. The date scheduled is Saturday the 2nd of NOV at 8AM. Parents and friends are welcome to attend also.
Our Drill Team and Rifle Team pictures will take place on the 21st of November immediately after school.
Also, on that evening, our JROTC Drill Team will hold its annual Drill Team parent night in the lower gym at 530PM. This is a great night to come out and see your cadet on the drill floor, take pictures, Our first home competition will be on December 7th at 8AM here at PCHS.
Our JROTC Rifle Team will begin competing on the 2nd of November against Joliet Central HS. Also, they will compete in Bloomington on the 7th of Nov. They will have a home competition on Saturday December 7th at 8AM on our Rifle Range here at PCHS.
Lastly, our annual Military Ball will take place on Saturday the 23rd of November. ***This is a mandatory event for all cadets***. Cadets will meet at 430PM and the Ball will start at 5PM. I would like to extend an invitation to all of you for the first part of the Ball. This is our formal portion of the event and parents are invited to watch. This should conclude at 6PM After that, we ask parents to depart and the kids will participate in the informal events. These events will include a meal and a DJ. Cadets will finish at 8PM. 9th grades cadets will finish at 830PM after helping with clean up. Don't forget our website. Click on the link for more information: http://www.
