#dragonpride Senior Jayson Presley of Pekin, IL has received a scholarship for flight training, thanks to EAA Chapter 563 of Peoria and the Ray Aviation Scholarship program administered by the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Ray Aviation Scholars program provides $10,000 scholarships to 100 young people who are seeking to learn to fly. The Ray Foundation is providing $1 million annually to fund the program, which seeks to improve the flight training success rate from the current industry average of 20 percent to 80 percent for program participants. Local EAA chapters are responsible for identifying youth for the Ray Aviation Scholarship program and mentoring them through flight training. The Ray Foundation is furthering the legacy of James Ray, an EAA lifetime member who was dedicated to aviation and youth education. The initiative is designed to help meet the tremendous future demand for pilots and associated aviation careers. Jayson Presley will be training at Allmond Aviation based at Mt. Hawley airport in Peoria. The scholarship is designed to support a flight student through both written and practical segments of flight training that are part of successful FAA pilot certification.
A big shout-out to our #FirePitNation and everyone else who helped PCHS land in the "final four" of the Journal-Star's Best of Preps School Spirit Contest. The winning school will be announced on June 24th. #DragonPride
Congratulations to Alexis Epkins who was been named as an Illinois Golden Apple Scholar for the Class of 2019. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program is a prestigious multi-year teacher preparation and scholarship program that selects exceptional students who aspire to be teachers in Illinois schools-of-need. In return for a commitment to serve for five years in an Illinois school-of-need, Scholars receive academic support throughout college, tuition assistance, residential Scholar Institutes which include first-hand classroom experiences, job placement assistance, and mentoring during the first years of teaching. Golden Apple Scholars graduate at high rates and STAY in teaching, with 82% who excel as teachers in schools-of-need for five or more years. Importantly, Principals say that Golden Apple Scholars are better prepared to teach on Day 1 than those prepared by any other program. #dragonpride

Our SkillsUSA chapter is selling popcorn that ships directly to your house already popped! There are a ton of witty options available. If snuggles is a quality you look for in popcorn, then there's an option for that called Caramel-Diem. Please help us out! Our chapter receives 50% of sales, and if we sell the most in Illinois this week, then we will receive a $1000 bonus!
