Mrs. Johnson is in her 28th year of teaching dance at PCHS. She is also the Cultural Studies Department Chair. For over sixteen years, Sue has been the PCHS Pom/Dance Team Coach, where the TEAM has received top place rankings and national bids at UDA Summer Camps. In addition, over the past five years, Mrs. Johnson was awarded the “Exceptional and Most Valuable Coach Awards” and the “Leadership Award.” During January 2012, the dance team competed at the IHSA Sectionals and advaned to the IHSA State Dance Competition Series. In March of 2011 the dance team competed at the IDTA State Competition where they won 2nd place in both AAA Jazz and Lyrical divisions. In 2000 the Dance Team competed at the UDA National Dance Team Championship held at the Wide World of Sports, Disney World, Orlando, Florida. The team was ranked 13th in the Nation in the Jazz Division.
A graduate of Western Illinois University, Sue continued her studies with such noted choreographers as Lou Conte, Lynda Martha, Joel Hall, Gus Giordano and Randy Duncan. For the past 30 years, she has been the choreographer for the Pekin Civic Chrorus. In 1989, Mrs. Johnson received the Pekin YWCA Women’s Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Award for her contribution to the Arts. In 2011, she received the Pekin Community High School Outstanding Contributor of the Year Award by Pekin Community High School in recognition of her involvement and support to both her school and community over the years.
Mrs. Johnson was also choreographer for the Pekin High School “Noteables” from 1976-1996, receiving the “Best Choreography” awards at Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois Show Choir Competitions. She received personal recognition for her outstanding choreography at the Young American’s Show Choir Competition in Hollywood, California, where the group was awarded Nation Grand Champion. Mrs. Johnson and her husband, Allen, are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters.
