Papa Murphy's Students Of the Month Mrs. Hudson nominated Jade Wage. Jade has worked really hard in research writing and made vast improvements. She is conscientious and hardworking with a kind heart. She's quiet, so she typically might fly under the radar but I adore having her as a student. Mrs. Mccann nominated Derrick Wright. Derrick started in the program as a shy, soft spoken freshman and has grown into a talented, dedicated leader. Derrick is always on time, works hard and is ready for all rehearsals with all materials. Derrick sets the example for his peers by showing positivity and light hearted care for others. He always volunteers to help where needed and offers his time to those that need additional instruction.

Wellness day is going to be on Thursday, April 19th this year and will be the largest event yet! This is a day for all students in PE/Health/Dance/Drivers Ed. All the students in their respective class period will come to Hawkins gym that day and walk around to different stations we have in the gym. The stations are various businesses and organizations from the Pekin/Peoria Community that represent the whole spectrum of Health and Wellness. We will have over 40 stations with a variety of topics to address many areas of need for our students. It is a day filled with interaction for our students to remind/educate them of things they have learned in health class but to remind them that there is more to your health than just eating right and exercising.

Last Saturday the S'Pekin Dragons competed at the Greater Illinois District Tournament to see who would qualify to the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament held this summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Students had to place either 1st or second in their events, making it very difficult to qualify. However, Pekin had TWO students qualify outright to the tournament! They are: Alexander Redding (senior) in Humorous Interpretation Samantha Probasco (junior) in International Extemporaneous Speaking Also, junior Julia McCammon placed 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation, making her the "next alternate." But, since Julia was on the bubble to outright qualifying, she also became eligible to make the District World Debates team, in which she secured her position yesterday! Therefore, we are taking THREE students to Fort Lauderdale this June! #dragonpride

Papa Murphy's Award Winners Gunner Matthews was nominated by Mrs. Ortega. Gunner exhibits a great deal of effort and care in his work, and his grade reflects his attention to detail and commitment to quality. Though soft spoken, Gunner brings a great deal to the table during any class discussion, and always elevates the conversation with his input. Gunner was chosen by his peers to fulfill leadership positions both in our Government Congressional simulation and in our Supreme Court simulation, in which he served as a Supreme Court Justice. Hayley Luster was nominated by Ms. Kahl. As historian for our government simulation, she went above and beyond in creating the presentation. In class as well (psychology), she is just a natural leader and always volunteers to do more. She is the group leader of every project, and works so hard.
