PEKIN COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION
SPECIAL MEETING
11 OCTOBER 2011
5:30 P.M.

The Pekin Community High School Board of Education met on Tuesday, 11 October 2011, in the Board of Education Room located in The Holman Career and Technical Education Building of Pekin Community High School, City of Pekin, County of Tazewell.

Call to Order

Present were Members Joe Alesandrini, Eric Hill, Karen Hohimer, Larry Howard, Carl Johnson, Paul O’Neal, and Ryan Wrigley.  Also present were Superintendent Paula Davis, Assistant Superintendent Tim Ruwe, Principal Melissa Bloom, Assistant Principal Seth Mingus, Recording Secretary Rick White, School/Police Liaison Officer Jeff Little, and a contingent of probation personnel, including Elizabeth Sphar.  Director of Business Operations Carla Schaefer and Administrative Assistant Danielle Owens joined the meeting for the spectator conduct hearing at approximately 6:15 p.m.

New Business

President Alesandrini made the request for closed session regarding student disciplinary cases and emergency security procedures and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to actual danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public or public property.

Motion by O’Neal, Second by Hill to Adjourn to Closed Session.

Motion Passed by Voice Vote.

The Board adjourned to closed session at 5:31 p.m. to conduct an expulsion hearing for a student identified as 11-02-12 and one spectator conduct hearing for Mr. Timothy Latronico, then returned to open session at 7:30 p.m.

Student Discipline

Motion by O’Neal, Second by Howard to Expel Student Number 11-02-12 for the remainder of the 2011-2012 School Year and the entire 2012-2013 School Year, Eligible to Return to Pekin High for Summer School 2013 in June 2013 and/or First Semester of the 2013-2014 School Year in August 2013, for Reasons of Gross Misconduct.

Motion Passed by Roll Call Vote:  Ayes – O’Neal, Howard, Hill, Hohimer, Johnson, Wrigley, and Alesandrini.  Nays – None.

Spectator Conduct

Motion by Howard, Second by Wrigley to Deny Mr. Timothy Latronico Admission to Pekin Community High School Extracurricular and Athletic Events, and Events Sanctioned by the Illinois High School Association in Which Pekin Community High School Students Participate, for One Calendar Year, or until 11 October 2012.

Motion Passed by Roll Call Vote:  Ayes – Howard, Wrigley, Hill, Hohimer, Johnson, Wrigley, and Alesandrini.  Nays – None.
