POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING
MONDAY, MARCH 20, 2008
The Policy Committee met on Monday, March 20, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Office located in The Holeman Center for Career and Technical Education Building of Pekin Community High School, County of Tazewell
Superintendent Paula Davis called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Committee members Ed Harr and Karen Hohimer were present. Superintendent Paula Davis, Assistant Superintendent Tim Ruwe, Business Manager Carla Schaefer and Recording Secretary Dawn Roach were also present. Committee member Gary Lowe was absent.

Policy 7.20 – Harassment of Students Prohibited: This policy was amended to include the fact that you can’t bully. A concern in the term “causing psychologically harm” was discussed. Everyone was in favor of deleting that statement and putting the policy up for a first read, therefore the policy will be brought before the Board at their next meeting for a first read.
Policy 7.70 – Attendance and Truancy: This policy was updated requiring the person who has custody of a child to cause them to attend school. Paula said what’s problematic about this is the implementation of this. There is a truancy program in place. Mr. Ruwe said the rule is wherever the child lays his head is where the child can go to school. Paula said this falls within what we are able to deal with. The public act 94916 was passed in July requiring us to do this. The committee agreed to bring this policy to the Board for a first read at their next meeting.
Policy 7.180 – Preventing Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment: This is a new policy and is being recommended to us. We have 7.190, 7.310 and 7.2 all in place. We need to make sure we didn’t amend the language in our other policies. This information is in our student handbook and is also made over the announcements. Paula stated that we don’t need to include all numbered items listed. Only page one of policy 7.180 is what we need. We can exclude pages two and three. The committee agreed to bring this policy to the Board for a first read at their next meeting.
Policy 7.220 – Bus Conduct: Paula said that the City and Hoyle Bus Transportation have to follow this policy. The committee agreed to bring this policy to the Board for a first read at their next meeting.

Policy 7.220- AP– Administrative Procedure Electronic Recordings on School Buses: Paula stated that we can skip this one as it is an Administrative Procedure.
Policy 7.50 – We did not have that policy in our book.
Policy 7.340 – Student Records: Paula said this addition was not an issue and she is not opposed to this. The committee agreed to bring this policy to the Board for a first read at their next meeting.
Policy 8.20 – Community Use of School Facilities: The wording was changed again. The intent hasn’t changed. Tim asked is we could just go with what we have written. The committee agreed to use the policy we already use, therefore this policy will not be brought to the Board for a first read.
