Athletic Code
Superintendent Davis told the Board that the administration had met with parents to discuss the Athletic Code. She wanted their input when making changes to the code. The intent of the code is to keep our kids safe. Changes made to the code are: Article 1, option #3 was added; Voluntary admission by student or parent/guardian to the coach/sponsor or Administration of a first offense infraction will result in a reduction of the suspension by 50%. Voluntary admission may not be used by a student if the rule infraction is already known by the school. This clause will give the students the opportunity to be honest. Superintendent Davis looked at 15 other codes from all over the state and not one excluded students after the second offense. The second offense will result in one calendar year suspension and the third offense will result in permanent suspension. Students who fell victim to their second offense last year will remain excluded as per the code they signed last year. Parents will receive a letter from the administration when a violation occurs. Board member Harr expressed his concern about parental pressure and kids who participate in sports. Discussion was also held concerning student athletes missing school due to illness and their participation that day in that particular sport.
Motion by Howard, second by Hohimer for approval of the revised athletic code.
