Bethanie Whittaker, a member of Pekin High’s Special Education and English Departments, was recently named
the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year. The ICEC states, “This award is
the most prestigious honor bestowed on a teacher of students with exceptionalities from the State of Illinois.”
Bethanie was chosen for this award because she is currently involved in the provision of direct services to students
with exceptionalities and has demonstrated qualities the ICEC feels are exemplary in increasing student
achievement. The ICEC Executive Board of Directors presented Bethanie her award at their annual fall conference
in October 2011 and she will be given a stipend by ICEC to represent Illinois as the state winner at the CEC
National Convention in Denver, 11-14 April 2012.

- Reminder: The IASB Central Illinois Valley Division has scheduled the LeaderShop workshop, “School Finance for Board Members: Beyond the Basics,” for Tuesday, 24 January 2012, 6:00 p.m., at Edison Junior High School, 1400 Earl Street, Pekin.
- The IASB is also offering the LeaderShop workshop, “The Board’s First Responsibility: Detecting and Communicating a Compelling Vision,” on Saturday, 11 February 2012, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Registration and a continental breakfast are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., with the first session to follow at 9:00. Lunch will be served and the workshop will adjourn at 3:00 p.m. The deadline for registration is 08 February. Please contact Rick White if you wish to participate. Brochures were included in Board meeting packets.
- The April 2012 regular meeting of the Board of Education has been rescheduled from the 23rd to the 30th.
