The O & M Committee met on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Office located in The Holman Center for Career and Technical Education Building of Pekin Community High School, County of Tazewell.

Joe Alesandrini called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Present are: Joe Alesandrini, Betty Scott, George Kampas, Ed Harr, Paula Davis, Carla Schaefer, James Lewis and recording secretary Dawn Roach.

Architect Proposal

Joe Alesandrini told the committee that we had three proposals for architectural services. They are: Huff Architectural Group, Inc. – Springfield, Illinois, BLDD Architects – Bloomington, Illinois, Healy, Bender & Associates, Inc – Chicago, Illinois. Paula started by saying that all three proposals are pretty similar. Paula stated that all three had the same instructions. Her questions were number of projects, number of employees and can they take us on. Paula said if she were going to rank the three, Huff would be last. BLDD did the best presentation, and Healy, Bender came in on bended knee. Paula told the committee that we have already spent some money with Healy, Bender this year in regards to the restroom project. Paula said that speaking for Tim Ruwe, who is absent tonight, he would prefer to stick with Healy, Bender. They have done the bulk of the work at PCHS. Joe Alesandrini stated that Huff was third on his list as well. James Lewis said the in talking with other firms, he has heard nothing but good about BLDD. His choice is either BLDD or Healy, Bender. George Kampas stated that he likes BLDD because they are closer and will have someone on call. James Lewis said that we have paid Healy, Bender for prints. The committee discussed BLDD and Healy, Bender. Discussion was held regarding asking Healy, Bender for a new contact person. Healy, Bender is the architect who built the new addition; they have been with us for thirteen years. Paula said that when we moved from our last architect to Healy, Bender there were issues. She told the committee that we have a problem with a leak currently. We’ve had this problem before. James said that they have the problem laid out and will begin digging in the morning. Joe made a suggestion; the project manager and principal in charge can not be the same person. Paula asked Ed Harr if he had any comments. Ed worked with BLDD on a number of jobs, they do fantastic work, but he has no problem with Healy, Bender getting a second chance. Paula said from the sounds of things, she will call Cliff Bender and lay out the terms we have agreed upon and see if we can come up with an agreement. Paula said we will look at one project at a time. Paula said that the seating structure in the stadium will need to be looked at. She also stated that we may get the community involved regarding a separate structure for the stadium. We may need to bring a structural engineer in to look at the concrete at the stadium.
